Setting the Temperature in the Refrigerator/Freezer

Posted on Updated on

What Temperature Should I Set My Refrigerator/Freezer?

What Should My Refrigerator/Freezer Temperature Be Set At?
The proper refrigerator temperature setting is 32-40° F (0-4 degrees Celsius). The freezer should be at 0° F (-18° Celsius).

Allow at least 24 hours for your refrigerator/freezer to cool down and stabilize after adjusting the temperature.

Use an appliance thermometer to monitor the temperature of both your refrigerator and freezer. Adjust the temperature settings as needed.

To test the accuracy of your refrigerator and/or freezer temperature settings:

  • in your refrigerator, place a cup of water with a cooking thermometer in it for a few hours in your refrigerator.
  • in the freezer, check the temperature the same way but use cooking oil or alcohol as these will not freeze.
